3 e-bikes have been purchased, together with waterproof pannier bags, helmets, tool kits, high visibility vests, lights and a cargo trailer. The bikes are available to hire for a month at a time. There are no hire fees for users currently.
The scheme has been enthusiastically taken up and by August 2026 we have had 8 island residents hire the bikes for a month long period.
The scheme is primarily targeted at long-term hires for Colonsay residents and is not open to visitors at the moment, but that may change in future.
We hope that this scheme will encourage residents to try an eBike, and then have confidence to buy one of their own. Cycling has well known health benefits, and will also help to reduce petrol/diesel car and van emissions on the island contributing to Colonsay’s long term “net zero” aspirations
